About Kitchen Society
Oh hello there!
Welcome to Kitchen Society. My name is Aarti. I’m a part-time content creator and food lover. I created Kitchen Society with a desire to help people who lead busy lives cook more. Despite a full time job, I manage to find time to cook and want to empower more people in the kitchen. If you’re new to cooking and are looking for easy vegan and vegetarian recipes, you’re in the right place. I’m also excited to help brands connect with a global audient and help them with content creation to help them grow their brands!
Where do you live?
Where are you from?
Although born in Bombay, I moved to Malaysia when I was 2 years and Singapore when I was 7 years ago. I moved to Manchester for my Bachelors in Law and to Washington DC after that for my LLM at Georgetown University. I was curious about living in India since I never really had done that and did a brief stint at the Reserve Bank of India. I began missing home and life’s circumstances brought me back to Singapore which is where I live and work now.

Why are you vegetarian?
I turned vegetarian when I was 13 after I saw a documentary on the food industry. I guess it left a pretty lasting impression on me. My mom has been vegetarian her entire life and home was always a meat-free space so it wasn’t too hard becoming one.
What do you do outside work (apart from cook?)
Hanging out with my friends is a big one! Singapore is a rather social place but since the pandemic, I got used to a lot more me time which I’m increasingly cherishing. I’m a pretty big F1 nerd and watch most races. I also run and read a fair bit when time permits. I find the world of politics and financial markets very interesting and follow that universe closely too.
What got you into cooking?
I think I had a dormant interest in food but it really took form during Covid. During peak lockdown conditions, the only “date” my then boyfriend (now husband) and I could do was hit up supermarkets and we were lucky to live next to a large one. I’d get curious about all the different ingredients and find myself seeing how I could bring them to life in the kitchen. I’d get them home and rabit hole into making different foods from different parts of the world. Its been a few months and years since then and I still can’t seem to shake off that habit!
What are your favourite ingredients?
This is SUCH a long list. But let me disclose my pantry favourites by category:
Spice: Chili powder, gochuchang, mala/Sichuan chili oil, smoked Paprika
Salt: Soy Sauce, Vegetarian Oyster Sauce, Miso Paste
Sour: Tamarind, Rice Vinegar, Balsamic Vinegar, Pomegranate Molasses
Sweet: Gula Melaka, Coconut Sugar, Maple Syrup
I’ve also got a full stack of spices which I adore and use almost daily without which I think life would be incomplete.
